Care To Spay?

Did you know? This year an estimated 8,000 animals will die in one local shelter alone. Most of the animals killed are healthy and many are young puppies and kittens that never had a chance. There just aren't enough homes to accommodate the number of animals being born. We see females dumped on the streets or brought to shelters because they are pregnant. Unaltered males, found straying after females, are also commonly brought into already over crowded shelters.

Pet owners should be held accountable for the litters they allow their animals to produce, but most often it is the puppies and kittens paying the price with their lives. Sadly, it falls into the lap of the non-profit shelters to deal with this surplus.

We hope to reduce the number of animals killed daily in local shelters by targeting low income (persons who cannot afford to have their animals altered) and "repeat offenders" (persons who continuously bring litters into the shelters). We will be effectively targeting the problem by reaching out to those who have proven they will not have their animals altered without our help. We will also be providing these people with information on how they can better care for their pets. We will make an effort to educate owners on preventing their animals from becoming sick simply by having annual vaccinations and fecal exams. We hope to teach responsible pet ownership.

How does this work? C.A.R.E. will give low cost or free certificates to repeat offenders and low-income families. Certificates will be given to those who prove eligibility through a short application process. It is an expense to our group, but we are willing to use some of our limited funds if it reduces the number of animals who will die in other shelters. If you know someone who could use help getting their animal altered, please give them our information.

Want to help by sponsoring a spay? If you would like to help someone in need spay their dog or cat to prevent the suffering and death of unwanted animals, you can Sponsor a Spay. As funds are generated, C.A.R.E. will give free spay certificates to people who cannot afford the discount price of a $35 donation. Your donation will go towards a special fund dedicated solely to helping animals in need.
