We
love hearing how the C.A.R.E.
pets are doing after adoption. Please feel free to browse
this
list of letters we have received. To all who wrote us, thank
you!
Hearing these great stories makes it all worth it.
Vinnie
We love Vinnie! He is such a good boy. I walk him twice a day, and
sometimes in the middle of the day on a weekend. He needs it, because
he has a lot of pent up energy! He still grabs his leash, but once he
realizes that he will have to walk himself, he gives it up. He's just
eager to get out! Vinnie is definitely potty trained. He has never made
a mess in the house. And he leaves things in the house alone. But he
does let us know when he must have attention. You know what I mean. He
gets up and wraps his paws around you. He is a little mouthy, but in a
playful way. Vinnie is a joy to have with us. I'll send more pictures
later!
Scooter
This is Scooter, we adopted her from you
in 2000. She is such a loving girl! She is now 13 years old & still
going strong!! Thanks for all you do!!!
Stella
We adopted
Stella (formerly Ruthie) just a month ago. We were a little
concerned that since she had been at CARE so long she might take a long
time to get used to us and our exuberant Boston, Charlotte.
However, Stella liked Charlotte from the start and puts up with quite a
bit before she calls a halt with a growl. We hope that Charlotte
soon learns that when the growling starts she is to back off. So far
she thinks it is a signal to get even more excited and has had several
scratches on her nose. Stella is not a lap cat yet, but we have
hopes. She prefers to be in the same room with us and lets us pet her
for longer and longer periods of time. Stella has a good sense of time,
and lets us know when she expects us to go to bed so she can curl up at
our feet. Then she purrs us up in the morning for breakfast.

Marbles
Little Marbles is the greatest adoption
anyone could have asked for! Everyone he meets is his friend and he
looooves the attention! After the rescue, Mom and Dad made him his own
"Colonial" style dog house that even includes a mailbox for treats! He
is the perfect tag-along companion as well as a great napping buddy! He
has affectionately been dubbed the "Bed Pig" as he roots and burrows
under his covers to find the perfect spot. His big puppy heart and
silly Chiweenie face not only make him the baby of the house, but has
made Marbles the love of his "mommy and daddy's" lives!
Turbo
I adopted Trevor, a young schnauzer mix
at an adoption event you held at Walmart about the second weekend in
December, 2010... I was only in town for the day, and your volunteer
was so kind and helpful and we were able to complete the process and I
was able to bring Trevor home to Kansas City that day. Anyway, I
wanted to let you know how great he's doing. His name was changed
to Turbo and believe me, IT FITS! My husband and kids have all
completely fallen in love with him. He plays all the time with
our miniature schnauzer, Chloe, and our cats. I have to believe
that destiny took a hand in matching Turbo with our family. He
has stolen all our hearts and there isn't a day goes by that he doesn't
do something that cracks us all up. It was very easy to house
train him and he loves to learn new tricks. He is still all puppy
and we've suffered a few shoe casualties, but it goes with the
territory. I want to
thank you all for the wonderful job you do and will be going on your
website to make a donation to your organization to do what I can to
help you continue your good work. I am attaching a picture of him
so he can say "hi".
Thanks again, Bev Knoll
Otto
Just
wanted to drop you a note.. Otto is loving his new home and we are
loving him! He saw his vet for the first time yesterday and did well.
He is already starting to fetch a ball and is starting to catch on to
house training......he's extremely smart and lovable and we are so glad
we walked into the shelter "just to pet the dogs " LOL. You guys are
great. Love what you're doing. Keep up the good work.
Update:
Just wanted to say
hi and let you know Otto is great! He had to go to his vet for one more
parvo shot (just recommended since he's seen a lot of it in our area)
and he had a great check-up. He is over 8 pounds now, and one ear
constantly stands up while the other one flops over ..It's adorable! He
is a lovable little ball of energy!

Bentley
Bentley enjoying the
sunshine! Thank you
so much for the opportunity to
meet and fall in love with this handsome guy!

Dinky
Dinky continues to
thrive and is the
most loving little guy! I am so blessed to have found him! Being an
older dog, he is content to lay on my lap as much as possible, or he
will go to one of his 2 beds, one in my room and one in the living
room. A funny story I want to share: We are not sure exactly where he
had lived in the past or where he came from, but I do know that they
had a doorbell in their house because if he hears a doorbell on tv, he
jumps up and runs towards the door!! I don't have one! Its really cute.
He does like his outdoor time and walks too. We bond very well
together, we are both getting older and enjoy one another! I wouldn't
take a million dollars for all the joy I have had with him this past 15
months! The grandkids love him and he them too!! We are a happy family!
Thank you for all you do for these animals!
Just wanted to drop a
note about our
recent adoption of Tucker from the CARE
center. The
adoption was so easy and Niki was super nice and efficient
with the whole
process.
Attached is a picture from Christmas of our niece, Ali, and Tucker. She
fell in love with him
(as did most of our family). We only had him a week at
that point but
he was a perfect gentleman and it was as if he was the family
dog for years.
What a joy he has brought to our lives! He is happy
and healthy in his
“forever” home.
Thanks again, Joanne and
Scott Adams
Elwood
Hi, I want to tell you how
happy I am with
the dog I adopted from the C.A.R.E. shelter this past April - Elwood, a
Shar Pei mix. He is a wonderful dog! He and my
Chocolate
Lab, Polly, have become inseparable friends. Elwood is
keeping
Polly (4 years) very active, which has helped her lose some pounds,
which has greatly helped with her hip dysplasia. Polly is
acting
like a puppy again with Elwood! I'm so grateful he came to
live
with us....he is a joy.

Sophie
When I first met Sophie
she had just
arrived at the C.A.R.E adoption center. She was quietly sitting in her
cage on her hind legs with her head tilted to one side. Her black and
white coat was still like a big fur ball, but it was her ears that
really stole my heart. They were about twice the size as the rest of
her head! As a person growing up with big ears myself, I knew we would
be a perfect match. Sophie seemed very mild mannered and I decided to
adopt her that same day. Well, the mild
mannered part last about two days until she realized she was now the
big kitten on campus, the only kitten. Her true colors finally came out
and she now uses my home as her own Formula One racetrack. She goes
crazy for feather toys and has completely ripped apart her cloth house.
But hey, it's alright with me because it keeps her away from my leather
furniture. I've got to say,
adopting Sophie is one of the best decisions I've ever made, and I
thank C.A.R.E for letting me meet this rambunctious little friend.

C.A.R.E
is a nonprofit
501(c)(3), no-kill
animal shelter and sanctuary that specializes in helping injured,
abused and neglected animals in the Ozarks. Unfortunately, the
associated medical costs, along with the cost of spaying or neutering,
vaccinations, and deworming, are expensive. We do not charge enough in
adoption fees to offset these costs. C.A.R.E. relies entirely on
donations. You can save a life. Make a difference!
