The C.A.R.E.
Mission:To rescue
as many adoptable animals from "death row" as we can
properly
care for.
To provide medical treatment to sick or injured stray animals.
To
combine an
aggressive spay/neuter program with a high volume adoption program
while providing quality lifetime care for unadopted pets. To
network
with
and provide a rescue service for other shelters, ultimately
reducing
the kill-rate in Southwest Missouri.
About C.A.R.E.:
We are
a non-profit organization founded in 1992 by Director Melissa
Sartin dedicated to the prevention of cruelty
to animals. We have an inspected and licensed facility that is in good
standing with the state.
The C.A.R.E. shelter houses hundreds of
homeless animals. We have our Adoption Center
in Springfield, open seven days a week, which houses our current
adoptable pets. Our sanctuary near Aurora
is reserved for animals who may need some extra time to fully recover
and become ready for adoption. Our unadoptable animals can also
be found at our sanctuary, each spending their days with cageless
freedom, their nights in warm beds, and receiving lots of love and
individual attention.
C.A.R.E.
relies solely
on the kindness and donations of the public to care for our animals. We
are not city or state funded and all donations are tax deductible.
C.A.R.E. is and always has been, a "No-Kill"
animal shelter. We do not
take our animals to any facility for disposal. Animals that are not
adopted are allowed to live out their lives in our sanctuaries. We work
hard to create and maintain a healthy and happy environment for all the
animals in our care and welcome visitors and volunteers.
Our Policies:
We pride ourselves on working with other
shelters and humane societies,
not against them. We have good working relationships with many
organizations that are appreciative of our assistance in taking many of
their adoptable animals that otherwise would be destroyed.
All of our
pets
are spayed or neutered before being put up for adoption. We
support early-age spay/neuter programs for shelters. Spaying/neutering
prior to adoption is the only way to guarantee that none of our shelter
animals will contribute to the pet overpopulation problem.
We also employ an application process that helps us better match pets
and people. Prospective adopters are
carefully screened to ensure that we find the best fit possible for the
animal, based on the needs and personality of each individual dog or
cat.
C.A.R.E. does not accept in animals from the
public. We
rescue animals from kill shelters that would otherwise be destroyed.
Please do not ask us to take in an animal. We welcome you
to refer to
our Help Sheet for
more information on how to deal kindly with an unwanted stray or pet.
C.A.R.E
is a nonprofit
501(c)(3), no-kill animal shelter and sanctuary that specializes in
helping injured, abused and neglected animals in the Ozarks.
Unfortunately, the associated medical costs, along with the cost of
spaying or neutering, vaccinations, and deworming, are expensive. We do
not charge enough in adoption fees to offset these costs. C.A.R.E.
relies entirely on donations. You can save a life. Make a difference!
